Looking Back at 2022's Celebrity Sous Chefs

On February 19, 2022, nine of the area’s best chefs came together to create meals for the eleventh Chefs for Habitat Gourmet Gala. Honorary Chairs J.D. and Jenny Schroen welcomed 300 guests to the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center for an evening of food, music, fun, and fundraising.

Revealed during the event was the winner of the Cupcake Icing Challenge taken up by Habitat’s Celebrity Sous Chefs, a group of motivated community leaders who raised funds for Wicomico Habitat prior to the event. Shown during the gala was a video filled with boisterous brags by the Celebrity Sous Chefs as they created confectionary delights under the supervision of Chef Susan Patt of Salisbury’s Cake Art. In the end, Christy Hoffa was judged by Chef Patt to have crafted the most professionally iced cupcake. For raising over $4,600 alone, Rev. Martin Hutchison, City of Salisbury Secretary of Community Gardens, won the fundraising component of the competition.

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed music by the rock band Such Fools, bid on live and silent auction items, and posed for photos by Raye Valion Gillette. “It was a huge night for Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County,” said development coordinator Christina Williams. “The support we received from our community through sponsors, donors, board and committee members, and especially the chefs, shone through in the success of the evening.”

Over $75,000 was raised for Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County, all of which will be used to purchase building supplies for construction of safe and affordable homes
